Nashville Underground - New Music Reviews

I'm super excited to bring you a Nashville underground song. For this week's review I scoured song after song from Nashville artists to find the ultimate gems. I'm proud of this week's find and proud of Nashville's unceasingly raw talent.

Guaranteed to put you in a good mood: "Smooth Sailing" by Ashley Brooks

This track caught my ears right away by its peaceful and good feeling induced rhythm. The title says it all - the mellow beat and melodic smooth notes sung by Brooks will put you in a calm mood ready to relax.

A little Sunday morning Jack Johnson meets soulful India Arie, Brooks brings us a track to remind us - it's all good.

Inspired by her hometown's lake, Tim's Ford Lake in Winchester, TN, Brooks sings sweetly about feeling grateful and the need to not worry which makes it hard to not mirror her sentiments when jamming along.

“The tide gets high and the tide gets low, but through it all I’m going to sail along”

Brooks means her music to relax her listeners, "When someone listens to my music, I hope they feel love and peace." says Brooks. Whether it's a rainy or bright sunny day, this song will bring your mind back into perspective as you meditate on its mantra, and don't we all need a little perspective right now?

A stripped down feel is achieved with Brooks plucking an acoustic guitar backed by keys, a smooth jazzy bass, and a drum kit all added by her brother, Zachary Brooks. Ashley's buttery harmonies in the bridge and toward the end of the track will raise you into a higher Nirvana state, ready to sail into serenity.

Why I like this song: it's what we need right now. The world seems to be in limbo and tensions high in politics, racial issues, unemployment rates, and now with murder hornets. We all need a little reminder to - relax, just keep smooth sailing in life and it's all good.

Be on the look out for more calm inducing tunes from this inspiring songstress in the near future. You can find more info on Ashley on her Facebook and Instagram pages.

The song was co-produced by herself along with Zachary Brooks and was mix and mastered by Devin Holt.

Be on the lookout for more Nashville underground gems in the next few weeks!
